Overview

Teams are the top-level organizational unit in Whim. Every workspace belongs to a team, and team membership determines who can access the workspaces within it. You can create multiple teams for different organizations, clients, or projects.

Creating a Team

  1. Click your team name in the sidebar and select Create Team.
  2. Enter a team name — Whim automatically generates a URL-friendly slug (e.g., “Acme Corp” becomes acme-corp).
  3. Click Create. You become the team owner.
The slug is permanent and cannot be changed after creation.

Team Roles

Every team member has one of three roles:
RoleCapabilities
OwnerFull control — manage settings, members, billing, GitHub integration. Transfer ownership or delete the team.
AdminManage team settings, invite and remove members, change member roles (admin or member). Cannot transfer ownership or delete the team.
MemberAccess workspaces they’ve been added to. Cannot manage team settings or other members.
There is always exactly one owner per team. To change the owner, use the Transfer Ownership option in team settings.

Team Settings

Navigate to your team settings by clicking your team name in the sidebar, then Settings.

General

  • Team name — Update the display name at any time (admin or owner).
  • Team avatar — Upload an image (JPG, PNG, WebP, or GIF, max 5 MB) to represent your team.

GitHub Integration

Connect a GitHub organization to your team to enable repository-linked workspaces.
  1. In team settings, find the GitHub section.
  2. Click Connect GitHub to install the Whim GitHub App on your organization.
  3. Once connected, the linked GitHub organization and the user who installed it are displayed.
GitHub integration is configured during onboarding or from team settings. Connected repositories can then be linked to individual workspaces.

Danger Zone

These actions are irreversible and only available to the team owner:
  • Transfer Ownership — Select another team member to become the new owner. You are demoted to admin.
  • Delete Team — Permanently deletes the team and all its workspaces, including every task, container, and associated data.

Switching Teams

If you belong to multiple teams, switch between them using the team selector in the sidebar. Whim remembers your last active team so it’s selected automatically when you return. You appear in a team’s member list if you:
  • Were added directly as a team member, or
  • Were invited to a workspace within that team
