Overview

Every task in Whim has a comment thread where team members can discuss progress, ask questions, and share context. Comments support threading, @mentions, and emoji reactions.

Adding Comments

Open any task and scroll to the comment section at the bottom. Type your message and press Enter to post. Comments appear in real time for all workspace members viewing the task — no refresh needed.

Threaded Replies

Reply to a specific comment to keep conversations organized:
  1. Hover over a comment and click Reply.
  2. A “Replying to [Name]” indicator appears above the input.
  3. Type your reply and press Enter.
Replies are grouped under the original comment in a flat, Slack-style thread. Nested replies always attach to the root comment, keeping threads easy to follow.

@Mentions

Tag teammates in comments to get their attention. Type @ followed by a name to see suggestions:
MentionWho gets notified
@usernameThat specific user.
@everyoneAll members of the workspace.
@workspaceAll members of the workspace (same as @everyone).
Mentions are highlighted in the comment text so they stand out visually.
Press Tab to accept the first suggestion in the mention autocomplete.

Emoji Reactions

React to any comment with an emoji:
  1. Hover over a comment and click the smiley face icon.
  2. Pick from the available reactions: thumbs up, heart, laugh, surprised, sad, or angry.
  3. Click an existing reaction pill to add your vote — click again to remove it.
Reaction counts are shown as pills below the comment. Your own reactions are highlighted.

Notifications

Whim notifies you when something relevant happens in a comment thread:
EventWho gets notified
@mentionThe mentioned user (or all workspace members for @everyone / @workspace).
Comment on your taskThe task creator, whenever anyone else comments.
Reaction to your commentThe comment author, when someone reacts.
Notifications appear as:
  • In-app notifications in the notification panel.
  • Browser notifications if you’ve granted permission (configurable in notification preferences).
When you open a task, any unread mention notifications for that task are automatically marked as read.
